Activities at Saba Rock
Saba Rock is ideally located in what we like to call ‘The North Sound Playground’. Whether your perfect day involves a sailing adventure or a snooze in a hammock, it’s all within reach.
For those wanting to explore beyond the North Sound, there are a number of charter companies in the area from whom you can rent a powerboat (with or without a captain) . Join-in island hopping day trips are also available by power or sail boat. Additionally, numerous public ferries run regularly between the main islands.
If you need some inspiration, our favourite excursions are listed below:
The Baths and Virgin Gorda Tour
Enjoy a day on the ‘mainland’ of Virgin Gorda, sightseeing in an open air safari truck. On the drive over the mountain to Spanish Town, you will enjoy world class views of the surrounding islands. The Baths are located at the Southern end of Virgin Gorda, so you can tie this trip in with visits to Savannah Bay and Spring Bay which are enroute. A short walk will bring you to the entrance of The Baths and the famous giant boulders. Clamber over the rocks, swim & snorkel, before heading back to the North Sound via Hog Heaven, for a cocktail with the most sensational view.
North Sound Experience
Rent your own boat or take the Saba Rock ferry to try the coolest island flavors that the North Sound resorts and beach bars have to offer! Located next to Saba Rock is Prickly Pear Island, a BVI National Park since 1988. It’s the perfect place to spend the afternoon soaking up the sun on its breathtaking white sand beach, hiking the trails, or liming like a local at the quaint beach bar.
Day Trip to Anegada Island
Take a private charter boat, helicopter or plane to escape it all on Anegada, the drowned island. Famous for its miles of white sand beaches, pink flamingos and wild donkeys, lobster lunches and laid back feel. This day trip will cast your cares away and bring you one step closer to nirvana.
Kayaking and Stand Up Paddle Boarding (SUP)
Rent a kayak or paddle board and explore the mangroves and beaches of the North Sound. When the water is calm you can float around with minimal effort – island style exercise!
SCUBA and Snorkeling
The BVI is a diving and snorkeling paradise for beginners to experts. Among other sites, divers can explore the famous ship wrecks of RMS Rhone and the Chikuzen or the the prolific sponge and coral at the Invisibles. For snorkelers, Eustatia Reef is just around the corner from Saba Rock, where you’ll find an array of Caribbean sea life including beautiful coral gardens, rays, turtles, and sea stars.
Glass Bottom Boat Tours
For those that want a coral reef adventure without getting wet, view it all from the comfort of a glass bottom boat with a cocktail in hand. If you are seeking more of an adventure, try the night reef tour to see what lurks beneath after dark.
Sailing and Windsurfing
The BVI is one of the top sailing destinations in the world. It’s calm trade winds make it a perfect place to learn or hone in on your sailing skills. Windsurfers and Hobie Cats, as well as larger sail boats are available for rent. For beginners, sailing lessons are available. For the idle, charter crews are available to do all the hard work.
The North Sound is one of the top kiteboarding destinations in the world. Made famous by the legendary Pete Cabrinha and our debonair neighbor, Sir Richard Branson. It is an excellent destination to both learn and kite all year round. Instruction (with gear rental) is available.
Experience the thrill of sport fishing for Marlin, Tuna and Swordfish in the Caribbean and Atlantic waters of the British Virgin Islands. The charter company will provide all the necessary equipment and apply for your fishing licence. Half and full days are available. Bone fishing is available in Anegada only.
Take to the sky for an aerial view of this spectacular archipelago. An unforgettable experience and a great photographic opportunity. Tours depart from Saba Rock.
